Go Pro Hero 9 Black

Well folks it’s that time…..for another Go Pro update.  I have the Go Pro Hero 6 and 7.  I skipped the 8 but there were some new features on the 9 that I was really interested in.    I purchased the bundle which came with a few extras.

In the Box
Go Pro case, camera, charger, extra battery some clips, grips, etc

Initial Impression
The biggest difference to my previous versions is that the 9 doesn’t need the frame anymore to attach to a handle or other accessories.  It has “arms” that flip down from the bottom that work as the mount to any attachments.

After 3 week of use
I’m undecided at this point.  Honestly on my few first recordings, my 7 seemed to have better overall quality than the 9.  The Hypersmooth 3.0 is impressive, but my favorite feature has to be the Horizontol leveling.  I really needed that feature.  You can now have presets for various shooting modes like Slow Mo, Activity, Standard that are fully customizable.  The bundle also comes with an extra battery, charger and floating handle.

Negatives
The battery is larger in the 9, so that stinks if you have many batteries for the previous versions.  You’ll have to purchase extras, thus the bundle was a good deal. The menu can sometimes be laggy and can be frustrating when you click on one thing and something else opens.  One more complaint is that it seems to freeze up randomly.  Sometimes it won’t turn on, and sometimes it won’t turn off.  The only way to correct this is to remove the  battery.

Conclusion
GoPro makes a great camera.  The new features like the HyperSmooth and Horizontal Level are gamechangers.  It will take some time to figure out the best settings for your usage.
