Sony – 65″ Class – LED – X950G Series – 2160p – Smart – 4K UHD TV with HDR (Model:XBR65X950G)

The old 2012 Samsung TV was starting to show it’s age. I’ve been keeping an eye on this 2019 model TV for months now. After slow week to week price reductions, one day, the price dropped $300 and that was all she wrote. “My Precious” (in Gollum voice from LOTR)

TV, stand, remove, manuals, power cord, batteries.

Initial Impression
The construction seems solid.  The legs for the stand were easy to assemble, but probably easier with two people.  After turning on the TV, there is some setup to go through, like wireless networks and connecting to Google.  The TV has google assistant which is a nice feature.  Not sure how she will get along with Alexa and Siri, but we’ll have a comparison soon enough.

After 3 week of use
To say it has  a beautiful picture is an understatement.    I only made very minor setting adjustments from the out of the box settings, like reducing the brightness.  It is extremely bright out of the box.  I also lowered the motion settings, so it’s not too “soap opera” like.  The best content I found BY FAR is from YouTube’s 4K videos, streaming from my Roku (4k).   They truly are breathtaking.   The navigation around the menu is very fast thanks to the same X1 Ultimate Processor that is the top of the line Sony models.

Negatives
The other content is not as impressive, specifically from the cable box. This is not a result of the TV, just the cable provider. The content is upscaled, but not the same as the 4k.

Conclusion
Compared to some other brand TV’s, the Sony might seem high price wise. Keep an eye out for price drops. It is worth every penny.
